What is the best way to care for a Le Creuset teakettle?

Question by † Sophia †: What is the best way to care for a Le Creuset teakettle?
I found a red enamel teakettle by Le Creuset at a discount store (50% off!), so there was no box and no instructions for care included.

Thanks for your help!

Hand wash in hot, soapy water.
The enameled surface can chip or crack if dropped or banged against a hard surface.
Empty the kettle of water between uses to prevent the buildup of mineral deposits.
Do not fill the kettle above the spout opening inside.
Be sure the handle is in the locked position during use.
Never heat the kettle empty or allow it to boil dry.

Question by vtmary22: What size dutch/french oven to buy??
I’m considering buying a Le Creuset french oven. I want one large enough to cook for a small crowd, but not so large that it is impractical. Sizes range from 2.5 quarts to 9.5 quarts, and prices obviously increase the larger you go. Thanks for your input and expertise!

I have a 7-quart one for a family of four, but have guests often, and it makes gracious plenty. Look at that size.

I just heard today that Lodge brand of cast-iron cookware is coming out w/ an enameled cast-iron cookware to compete w/ Le Crueset. A big dutch (aka French) oven by Lodge is only about $ 65, compared with over $ 200 for Le Crueset. I’ve been wanting another couple of pieces, and I’m gonna try the Lodge enameled one next!

Oh, another place to get less expesnsive LC is at TJ Maxx or Tuesday Morning. It’s hit or miss as to whether they’ll have any, but hit it about once a week and you may find something.
